Nothing right away. You have to get caught. In colleges, you automatically fail that class and get reported to the police for plagairism.

High school and middle schools? Well, I think you get suspeneded or something but it wouldn't be that much of a big deal if your school doesn't have prestige or strict teachers. In my high scool it was pretty common.

From my experience, it is rare that someone will come after you. Most times people "Imp" the person who owns the copy right because they are jealous of what you might have posted .Usually if someone just out of the blue asks you to take something down, you try to verify who they are. If someone is coming after you, what usually happens is either they or their legal department will send you a "cease and desist"letter asking you to take it down. It progressively gets more and more serious after that.I wouldn't worry about anything you might post unless you get a "cease and desist" letter.

without prior permission of the owner of the text (or if you send 3 emails 1 day after each other and then wait a week and they dont reply) you could be prosecuted or fined or something of a similar vain.

Well it considered a crime to copyright now. So like any other criminal offense, you have to be caught first!
