I'm 7 wks pregnant. This morning, after I showered, I had phlegm in my throat, I tried to hark out it and the first phlemg that came out was blood, every other phlegm that followed was clear (even the morning sickness vomit was clear). Then my nose started running at the same time, I blew it and that also had blood mixed in it. I moved on to brush my teeth, my gum bled a tiny bit. I do NOT have a cough, sore throat, chest pain, fever or any pain anywhere in my upper areas.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it going to become one of my pregnancy woes? Or is it something serious. Please help an ever so panicky first time mother 2 b.

Ahh, the joys of pregnancy that no one tells you about. A change happens in your vasculature during pregnancy, and bloody noses are a common side effect. Many pregnant women also experience a stuffy/runny nose as a result of this.
Many women also have issues with sensitive gums - try to switch to a soft toothbrush if you are not using one already.

Yes! It definately IS a pregnancy woe. And unfortunately, it will continue until delivery. I am actually awake right now at 3:48 in the morning, nursing a bloody nose. I am 34 weeks and have gotten them periodically since week 8. I was just researching it when I stumbled upon your question. And every site I have looked at, says it IS completely normal. Here is a link to a terrific explanation of it.

My nose bleeds every time I blow it and has since I was about 7 weeks along (I am 12 weeks now). It's normal...the hormones that are making your cervix soft for the pregnancy effect *all* of your mucous membranes, including your nose. It tends to be worse because it's winter also. The bleeding gums is also normal...you should go to the dentist just to get a cleaning, but every soft tissue like that gets a lot more blood flow in pregnancy.

It is quite common in pregnancy to have bleeding gums and nose bleeds, apparently. It is something to do with the change in where your blood is directed around your body.

I had the first nose bleed I had in years when I was pregnant, and before I even got a positive test.

It's probably ok, but if you're really worried I would check with your doctor.

Most likely the blood was from your mouth that you swallowed. Many women have problems with their gums during pregnancy. Go to your dentist for a good teeth cleaning. You also may have irritated your esophagus when you coughed and made it a little raw.

that is not something that happens during pregancy. It could be you had a bit of a chest cold..and it is starting to loosen up somewhat. To clear your mind.go see your Dr and tell him/her what you have experinced.

youmentioned that your throat coughed up blood..that part is not normal..that is why i said maybe you had a bit of a chest cold..the gums can bleed during that time...2 differnt things

welcome to pregnancy! I've been dealing with the same issue for the past 3 weeks myself. Congestion is normal especially during the winter season...if your home is dry, your sinuses will get dry and cause bleeding and aggravation. The warm shower moistened things up and caused it to start "running" and for you to "hack".
It's normal. best of luck and congrats!
