Giving devolved powers that are not important causes resentment. Giving enough to satisfy separatists leads to independence in practice, if not in name.
It is possible to be independent enough within a Union, if a Union government stops trying to make every province uniform in its education, healthcare etc.
Giving devolution implies that you accept the logic of provinces trying to become independent despite being dependent on each other for their trade and security.

Yes, it won't be a bad thing. The Scots whilst vociferous about Devolution and independence don't mind accepting £17 million annually of English taxpayers money, it's past time they were also financially independent as well. Have you noticed how Irish/Welsh and Scottish nationalism is accepted but English nationalism discouraged? The union is all but dissolved anyway, may as well finish the job.

Yes, i hope so. I'm fed up with 10 years of corrupt Scots running the Government in Westminster just because half the Scots in Scotland keep voting the Labour Party back into power. It's time England was independent and those Scots with seats in Scotland can go to their own Parliament....lets face it... it will be a lot Greener for them not to travel so far and cheaper on the tax payer.

"Biologically, the term is a misnomer for that concept because evolution has neither a teleological direction nor a motive, so it is difficult to speak meaningfully of its "reverse" at all. In simple terms, anything resembling "devolution" in that sense amounts to evolution of organisms into simpler forms. That confusion is based on two conceptual errors: the idea that evolution is supposed to make species more "advanced", as opposed to "primitive"; and the idea that some modern species that have lost functions or complexity accordingly must be degenerate forms of their ancestors." "[devolution is] meaningless in terms of modern evolutionary theory, which deals with genetic adaptation of populations, as a result of natural selection of forms best suited to their environment. "

I'm English and like most English people the UK doesn't mean anything to us anymore, Britain is a multicultural society that is an umbrella term for everyone to come here against the wishes of most of us, so being proud to be British means nothing. Devolution will eventually lead to a re awakening of English nationalism as it did with the scotch and welsh, we may then finally have some pride in our people and country after years of being crapped on.

yes as you see from some, us Scots ( as the sun says ) do nothing but take from the English and put nothing at all into the union ( doesn't stop the English coming up here in swarms though or buying land retiring etc etc ) no wonder the nationalists are doing so well when you see how arrogant and ignorant a lot of English people are. your IQ level has obviously dropped considerably due to all the immigrants you have. i go all over the world and i can tell you being Scottish is a plus. i believe very much in the union but reading comments on here i think perhaps it will be good for Scotland to get rid of England. lets face it most who have in the past have done very well out of it.

Yes. And the more the UK divides itself, the less influence England will wield as a sovereign state, thus making its total integration into the EU all the more inevitable.

Probably like it will here in the US as well. Like taking candy from a baby. I don't say that in a bad way.....you can't base a country or people on one set of values they have lived by for generations and then pull (the candy) from them and tell them it was wrong and not expect a temper tantrum.

Us Americans use to have such admiration for the Brits. Stff upper lip, sarcastic comedy, football, proper manners. Now they are becoming a second rate nation because of their extreme liberal government. I hope it's not to late.

Illegal immigrants will eventually change the U.K..
The U.K. is now basically welcoming back the Moors that people had to expel from the area centuries ago. Good luck with that.
Political correctness with be the U.K.'s downfall.
