A six year old girl wrote an essay beginning with "My daddy died this year in Iraq" and beat out 1000 other entrants for some Hannah Montana tickets. The mother is quoted as saying “We did the essay, and that’s what we did to win. We did whatever we could do to win."

Am I the only one just a tad blown away by this? The mother of a six-year old coaching her daughter to lie, and BACKING HER UP originally by giving the date the "death" supposedly took place?

Oh, the prize was four tickets and airfare to a Hannah Montana concert.

I hope demonstrators show up at whichever show their tickets are for.

The mother is a shameless pig with no morals. The sad thing is (besides the fact that some other deserving little girl got cheated) is that she is the teacher and example for her daughter. If she loses those tickets, and she damn well should, it won't be the worst thing that ever happens to her...her mother is setting her up for a world of disappointment and rejection.

That is so revolting, I feel sick to my stomach. I hate to say it but when adults teach their children to lie and cheat at such a young age, something really bad is going to come along and bite them both in the behind; and it will be in a major way.

I know families that have lost a family member to that horrible war, and they have to deal with the heartache every single day and would never think of using their loved one's death to gain anything.

I hear some pretty frightening and disturbing things on a daily bases, and that is revolting. I could only hope and pray that contest winners are more carefully screened from now on. Maybe someone should fine the mother the cost of the tickets plus additional funds to go toward fallen soldiers family support groups or bills or something.

I can only pray that child does not land in jail in her later life, because her Mom is teaching her to be such a fine and upstanding citizen. I am being totally facetious, of course.

Have a Happy New Year, may God help us all.

*shrugs* I can't really say I'm surprised people lie all the time to their children and in doing so teach their kids its okay to lie, Santa clause, Easter bunny I'll take you here there and never do ... I mean really what do we expect ....So why not lie WITH your children?

I never told my 3 kids that any of these were real because I thought it was wrong to lie to them when they asked where babies came from I told them, about Santa, I told them ...

Although yes that is sick and wrong on both ends there is a lot worse going on in the world besides lying to get free tickets .... I'm not saying the kid and their mother shouldn't be punished but what can you do... People will do anything to get what they want that's the way the world works....

I'm sure peoples families who are in Iraq will torture them forever as is. I have friends and family there too but ... Yeah I'm not surprised or disgusted in any way ... There's really nothing you can do about people like that ...

thats just sick. if it is a lie and they know it now they should deny entry to these people and find a child who really has had that tragedy happen in her life.

I think it's sick and wrong. I am ex-military and that really disturbs me. Even if I HAD died, I wouldn't want my kid exploiting my death for something as pathetic as seeing that ugly bobble headed girl singing...
