Many cultures have a traditional dish, often associated with luck for new years, you might want to google your heritage and the word new years...and see what you come up with.
I'm Polish and we are having saurkraut soup and keilbasa to bring in the New Year.
Most folks around here do black eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread.

Black eyed peas and cornbread is what I thought most people ate. Kielbasa and kraut is a popular dish as well.
