Lots of times people want encouragement more than the truth. Some genuinely want constructive criticism of their appearance. I think this is more likely to be true of a younger person than one my age (66). There are a lot of parts to being attractive, and some people get it right away and some never get it.
Unfortunately we live in a society where looks is often overemphasized in defining attractiveness. I find attractiveness includes personality, speech, expressions and many other things beyond the raw materials of appearance. Some people are very attractive without necessarily having great looks.
Y!A is something of a "safe zone" where you can ask a question or post an answer with a kind of anonymity that allows brutal frankness.
In the words of Harry S. Truman, if you (a person) can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If a person doesn't want brutal frankness he or she should not post photographs and ask if he or she is attractive. That's asking to be hurt.

Vanity will be the end of us all.
I think we all come here to answer questions to in the end give our ego a fresh supply of feel good stuff.
I know when I try to seriously answer a question and I get a thumbs down, it hurts a little.
I guess we all need a little confirmation that we are smart, attractive people.

i have no clue.. that annoys me alot though.. Why must people be so superfically self concious as to be worried about how others see them? I'm happy being me and couldn't give a f*ck what anyone else think about me. I like myself the way I am, flaws and all, and I love my friends for the way they are, and I don't really understand why other people can't understand that. People should stop worrying about how other people see them and trying to force themselves to live up to societies image of perfect or attractive before they lose themselves for good and regret it someday.

They must just be looking for some positive response. Don't know why they do it, they just do. But most of the time what is attractive to one, might not be to another. Wonder why they don't keep that in mind when they read their answers.

They ask people that because they are insecure about themselves. They want to hear approval from others to fill the empty voids in their hearts instead of filling it with a little self-confidence, and learn that looks aren't everything.
