A manuscript is your book. You never send it to an agent or publisher unsolicited. What you send is called a query letter. It is usually accompanied by a synopsis. He isn't one of my favorite authors, but Nicholas Sparks has a great tutorial on his website for sending out a query letter.

Remember - every publisher and agent has a different set of submission guidelines. Always follow them to the letter or you will be tossed into the slush room and eventually rejected. And remember that the Top Ten publishers do not even accept unsolicited queries from authors. They deal only with agents.

You can also go to my profile. I star all good Q and A on writing and publishing for novices to use. Surf through and print out any that may help you. A lot of successful authors have posted here with great information.

I think a manuscript is basically the book that you're going to publish and a query is a letter or something to an agent or publisher. I'm not exactly sure.

Hope this helps!

The Query is the consultation to an editor for a manuscript that could be sent to the media or the like.
