I've spend my entire life being told by the media that life is better in California and New York than it is in the West. Based on the statistics I'm not sure if that's true.

By media I mean all sorts of TV shows from sitcoms to reality TV. The Coasts get all the attention and the Midwest gets ignored.
Here's an example: Most high school students on the Coasts take the SAT while most Midwesterners take the ACT. But the SAT gets all the attention on TV shows while you never even hear about he ACT on TV. That's just an example.

The most noticeable difference between living on the coast's than the Midwest or south is the people. On the coasts people are much more tolerant, much more educated and a lot more interesting.
I could never live in the repressed bible belt or draconian Midwest.

It depends on whether the coasts give you the life you want to live. In my case, they do. I'm not sure what you mean about the media -- I don't see any direct attempt to sell California or New York life. Many studios are located there, so naturally that's where a lot of the action will take place. But a large number of the happy TV shows (sitcoms, etc.) are set in the midwest.

I personally like living on the coast much better than anywhere else. There is a lot more to do..
I think the reason why the media uses coastal places more than the midwest is just because the cities are bigger with more population. Places like Los Angeles, New York City, Philly, Atlanta, they all have a lot going on there in terms of studios, etc. The midwest is just... well, nothing really!

I guess if you like coastal living then it would be better. So what's wrong with living in the midwest and visiting the coasts? I wouldn't read much into the media. Live your life for you, not the media.

I live near Galveston and the weather is great here, but I'm always nervous when hurricane season comes. I guess the Midwest has a lot of tornadoes. So I guess it's just tit for tat.

I've lived on both coasts. Moved from California to Maryland. Climate-wise, theyre great! But these states seem to have dangerous cities. There's a lot to do. Just don't go downtown....

My answer is no. I lived in CA for most of my life,(I'm 52), and became tired of the crowds, crime and cost of living, so I moved to the Midwest for the improved quality of life. People here are more honest, friendly and dedicated to the values that make America great. Amen!

depends. i was born and raised on cape cod, i can't even imagine living more than a 5 minute walk from the ocean. it's all about your personality. the ocean offers something the rockies can't, and vice-versa. it's definitely a good idea to travel and experience different surroundings, but to say one place is definitively better than another is ignorant.
