It has built in memory that will store so much.
It starts out with about 230 "blocks". I have no idea what block translates into as far as storage space but they call them blocks. A typical downloaded program might use 15-30 blocks depending on the program.
But after that if you need more you can put a SD card in it and it will start storing on that.

The Wii has two parts to it. There is the Wii itself and there is a Gamecube built into it. The Gamecube works like it normally would if you bought it separately, so if you want to use any Gamecube games, a memory card is required. Gamecube memory cards are available at most electronic stores, or you can buy a NEW one on eBay or something.
However, the Wii has a different way of storing information. Memory for the Wii is stored in the console itself, NOT THE DISC! The memory is stored in what they call 'blocks.' My Wii has over 2000 blocks, but the number of blocks for a Wii may vary. Each game takes up about one or two blocks on your Wii, so you don't have to worry about running out of memory for a long, long time.
I hope you have fun with your new Wii. You'll be addicted before you know it!

No you will not need a memory card. Gamecube memory cards work on the Nintendo Wii but all the memory is all internal for the Wii.
If you are looking for a Gamecube memory card you can find one really cheap on Ebay. That's where I got mine.

Hi I dont need one yet as it does seem to have a lot of space on it as it is, you can buy them from anywhere are it takes camera SD cards. If you go in GameStation or Game they have them with the Wii accersorys and they are quiet cheap and are large capacity to, if you phone contains a small mini not a san disc you can get adaptors for these from tesco. I got one for my nokia as the one I got with it was only a small memory but this one I got from tesco was a 1 gb and the adaptor to and it was only 14.99, and it fits in the slot in the wii. So you could probably get away with saving on one of these and getting large memory to.
If you dont want to do it this way then there around 44.99 in the came store for a 1gb or around 60-70 in places like argos or jessops

The wii accepts SD cards. - But they are not essential. An sd card will let you view pictures and videos and do all sorts of weird things with them, also you cna backup your saves.
Argos sell them
Also a lot of mobile phone shops sell them.
I got my 1GB card from argos for £15
