I can understand not sharing your e-mail or contact information...but I don't understand why they would not want others to see their questions or other answers they provided people. So for those who do this, can you please explain your reasons?

Yep! Here's an explanation. Sometimes people don't like an answer you give, maybe they don't like more than one of your answers, so they go to your profile and look at all the answers you have given and report some or all of them as violations, even if they are not, to try and get your account canceled. To heck with that! I just keep mine private. If people want to know what I have to say they can read my answers to questions directly, or they can e-mail me.

to keep away from reportnick/stalkers that prefer to get human beings violations & get their bills deleted by utilizing reporting each Q&A you have ever published. to boot as dragging out very own archives that doesn't relate to the subject count handy, just to attempt & humiliate or embarass. (and that i've got had numerous thoroughly benign questions & solutions that have been given violations... like asking approximately human beings's alternatives between toddler names, or giving an answer that exchange into curiously no longer in step with somebody's perspectives, even nonetheless i had researched & suggested my answer--nonetheless they have continually been reinstated after hassling with Yahoo for a whilst, yet it extremely is purely bothersome!) i've got had some stalkers. (the worst of which desperate to annoy me as a results of fact i asked a question approximately finding out on a high quality day care--they have been curiously rabidly against working mothers.)

To protect themselves from trolls. I only had one troll & she reported all my questions as violations, but I figured out who it was & blocked her & never had another violation. Some people just create new accounts when you block them so they can still report your questions, but my troll wasn't that relentless I guess. The only problem w/ making your profile private is that if you don't know who the troll is & it ends up being one of your contacts/fans then it doesn't do you any good because they will still see your questions and answers? You would have to get rid of all your contacts (or at least the ones you don't totally trust) & make yourself private I would think?
