You shut the computer down at night, having answered all of the questions that you care to - get up the next morning and turn it on again to answer any that were posted during the night with your morning cup of coffee - click on a question, only to find that it has already been resolved but not moved to the resolved section. You don't even get a chance to answer it, so the people on the other side of the world haven't either. Sometimes, I have a really good answer already forming in my head and don't get the chance to post it, because the asker has only left it up for 4 to 8 hours.
My wish for the New Year is that everyone get along and that people leave their questions posted for 24 hours to give everyone a chance to answer

the one I was talking about is the one that alcoholi mentioned. Several times when this has happened, I have emailed the person that asked and nicely made this comment about leaving it for 24 hours - always have been answered with something like"good idea - thanks". But not everyone allows email.
As far as the first couple of answers being the best, how do you know unless you let everybody that wants to answer - have a chance to answer.

If you come across this again and it's been resolved, there should be a comment box next to the edit box for your to leave something especially when you can't email the questioner.
We found out about the comment box yesterday after Sapphire posted a question about it. We'd never noticed it before and we're pleased it's been brought to our attention now.
We agree with you about them being left for at least 24 hours so everyone has a chance to answer. We've seen some questions left on for 2 weeks sometimes.
We've organised an answer and clicked to post it before and we get the "this question has been resolved" notice which is maddening to say the least lol.
We also agree with you about the getting along bit too....it would be lovely if everyone could get on without the nastiness and backbiting.....what do you think our chances are....slim or very slim?!!!! We'll hazard a guess at very slim.

I don't know. Sometimes an asker may not want a question there for 24 hours. That seems like a long time. I agree with Scooter. Four to eight hours seems like plenty of time to answer a question. If you want to leave a question there longer, you can always extend it. I don't see that this is a problem.

Questions are usually only opened for 4 or 5 hours sometimes...you can choose to add additional details and extended the question at that point. I agree with you that they should be left open for 24 hours...then you can get anwers from around the world. I'd like that.

Good point. Yeah, it has happened to me. It would be nice if a questions *had* to remain posted for at least 24 hours. It wouldn't hurt anything if that became the standard. And it might yield some more serious and thoughtful answers.

You'd be on the set of coronation highway! In theory i assume if no longer something ever happend, there could have been no enormous Bang which might advise that circumstances for existence does no longer have been created!! In physics isn't there a regulation that states each and every action HAS AN equivalent AND OPPOSITTE reaction?? for this reason if there grew to become into no preliminary action, evoloution does no longer exist.... Cool! Existential questions:)

Some very strange happenings the last three days. I answer a question and before I hit submit it disappears never to be found again(i guess). Then I go back to the question to answer again, but i can't because there is no "answer this question, there is only "report this", very odd. I know how you feel.

That's just the way a good drug dealer works...they know how your addictive personality is wired & once they have you hooked, then it's up to you to get yourself to the PC every 4 hours to get your fix & relieve your agony from those withdrawals! The research people know what they are doing. Your only recourse is to go cold turkey & break the cycle of self abuse! The first step is admitting that YOU are an addict. Some day there will be meetings for people with PC addictions. Right now it's classified as OCD & that's just not enough to help the world!

Yes, it has happened to me. I can't be on the puter 24/7. I agree with you. We miss out on a lot of questions, but, even sadder...the askers are missing out on our answers.

It happens, but if the asker finds an answer that he/she really likes, why not get the results to the best answer quick ?
