apartment complexes nearby. Not that they are bad people, but a LOT of people are packed into those things. you will have SOME bad apples. Good schools are big for resale.

know what the future holds for adjacent property. Is it an easement, is there a pig farm next door? How is the water? What are the taxes like? what is the crime rate? Chill in the hood and watch things.

The very first thing I would look at is whether the house was facing the `right` way. I couldn`t buy a place that didn`t get any sun in the back garden.

Look at the crime rate (non-violent and violent both)
Look at the ethnic breakdown -- you want to know if you're going to fit in or be the sole minority in yay whiteyland
Look at the school scores, does it have a high graduation rate? Does it consistently score above (or below) the national average? What percentage goes on to higher learning institutions?
Look at the median income.
