Why does everyone think that there is so much alienation in big cities? I lived in new york,on the Upper west Side and there weren't too many people I didn't have at least a nodding aquaintance with. Small towns aren't all they're cracked up to be either, with everyone minding everyone else's business and meddling in affairs that have nothing to do with them.On my block,we took turns making haunted houses for the kids each Holloween whether some of us had children of our own or not. And,heaven forbid,if someone was in trouble,we looked out for each other,so no,I would have to strongly disagree.

If you are receptive to friendship, than a city might be the best place because there are other lonely people there and, if you can communicate and speak the language, you have many doors open for friendship.
Also there are societies and clubs and meetings to join, and make new friends there.
In the countryside it is often hard to fit in. The folk are more judgemental and requiring, and, once they do accept you, they might persistently intrude upon your privacy.
For some, it can seem overwhelming and snoopish.
I don't know really - I think it depends on where you are happy.
If you are unhappy in the city, then you won't attract many friends.
If you are happy in the countryside, you will welcome all the attention given to you, and deal with gossip mongers easily enough.

Well i lived in the city for 15 years then i moved to the country and i have more freinds here than i ever did down there, people in cities seem rushed all the time and don't speak to each other and in little villages you get to know everyone really well and become close kint but that isn't always a good thing.

People in the country have to rely on each other more often. They help each other during thrashing time, taking in crops etc.Because there is less people around they cherish the friendships they have made.Life is less hectic in some cases, but the work is really hard and their is less time to socialize, but when they do, they make sure they all have a good time. When times are tough, bad weather for crops etc. they rally round and help their fellow man in any way they can.
We could all take a few lessons from the people who grow our food.God bless the farmer.

After living in So. Calif. for 49 years, then moving to a tiny town in central Ca., I will say yes, there's no doubt about it. The town I now live in has about 2000 population. I have made more GOOD friends here in the 5-1/2 years I've been here than the same amount of time in So. Ca. I HATE going south now.

Because everybody knows each other else in a samller community than a big city. If you got to a small village in Ireland everyone knows everything about you if you've got a family member than in a big city and I'm all for that as I'm not a bad man so bring it on!

Yes. Massey Ferguson's are great for taking out the city mouse bombing down a country lane in a twin turbo porsche 911.

Tongues do wag in the countryside they can wound you bitterly with their rumours and prying.I would say there is but I feel lonely in my home village and long to come in to London daily.I feel less threatened too by the kids of London but I don't know why.

I think so because in the city there are so many distractions and people where in the country, people are your world really, they can keep you entertained and there is a better chance that you will see them again since you are in a small complex.
