What is it about California wildfires that makes them so fast-moving and destructive?

Usually the wildfires here are so fast moving because of the strong winds at the time. Usually the only time they get so big and destructive is when huge santa ana winds come through and just give it more energy.

Well what makes them so fast-moving is the wind. It pretty much shoves the fire in whatever direction, mercilessly. They're so destructive because of everything that is dead here. The hills are covered in dead trees and dead brush.

Australian fires are just as fast and destructive not just Californian

also a lot of people live in California, so more people = more destruction of property.
