My wife gives me a very hard time whenever I tell her that I'd rather not go to see musicals or operas. I hate going to them and they make me insane with agony when I'm sitting there. I've gone to a number of them in the past because she likes them, but I can't sit through any more.

She says I'm not being a good husband b/c I don't want to go w/her. However, I like to watch football and basketball (I know this is very stereotypical, but it's true), and have never, ever made her feel bad about not watching the games w/me. I figure, if she doesn't like to watch the games, then why on earth would I want to make her sit through something she doesn't like? I'd never do that. Why doesn't she think the same way about the opera & musicals?

Why is it that I *must* endure the operas & musicals in order to be viewed as a good husband? I don't get it. She *knows* I don't like them. What enjoyment could she get if I'm sitting next to her, when she knows I'm suffering through it?

Marriage is about compromise. I would sit down with her and tell her how you feel. Maybe you can compromise on how many musicals you will go to and how many games she is willing to go to. There has to be a middle ground. Maybe she can take her friends to the musicals and you can just go once in a while. She obviously likes your company and why not, your her husband! I have gone to games with my husband when I don't want to, but end up having a good time anyway. He has gone to some of my foo foo parties (as he calls them) and enjoyed himself also. We all have to compromise with our spouses once in a while. Hey it could always be worse! Good luck!

Bing a huge fan of operas and musicals, and also, a pretty big sprots fan, I am glad my long term girlfriend enjoys both too.

It does not mkae you bad if you don't attned what she loves. People can and should have difeerent likes and dislikes, including hobbies.

But you might want to fdind something she likes and do it with her, like dancxing, roller or ice skaing, bowling., or attned a cooking class or lecture series.

And what if your wife finds a man who does ENJOY opera and musicals...where will YOU be when she is out "enjoying" being with this other man?

Editied: "What enjoyment could she get if I'm sitting next to her" That the man she loves is sitting next to her. But maybe she can get used to the man she can GROW to love sitting next to her...

I like phantom of the operah, its great.

Why cant you do that for your wife. One little thing to make her HAPPY?

At least fake being happy there for your wife. It will mean the world to her and then maybe she will not fake enjoying s@x, and, maybe she will really enjoy it because she will feel closer to you because you got rid of the macho no opera thing and went to them to please her.
good luck.
