The word is stan or sthan. It means place, area country or land mass.Hindusthan, that is India , belonged to Hindus.Pak means pure. The pure land of Islam is known as Pakistan.Likewise, Ujbekistan, Turkistan,etc are named.
after their inhabiting tribes or populii.
