Even if footy should actually be used to unite people, some people take it too serious and sadly but yes... it does destroy friendships/relationships. Having different opinions about clubs/teams just makes people feud over which is best. This of course just makes people take it too far and start hating the person.

Hmmm. I think it's a lot of things expressed in the same way. For instance, I remember in school I learned about something having to do with how people act when their identities are concealed. And it was found that women on average were much more ruthless when someone couldn't tell who was shocking them. So I think that some people have that "mask" syndrome. They are emboldened by their anonymity to behave poorly. And then there is the "Sports Fan" mentality. Where pretty much every issue in the world is greeted with exuberance and abandon. The issue then becomes something to cheer for, one side against the other. So the person with that persuasion recklessly abandons manners and sensibility for raging fanaticism. Just like you would get if you were at the Superbowl with two normally rival teams. There just aren't many brain cells involved; mostly hormones. Gee, aren't I looking at the brighter side of life! lol

yes and no. If the friendship is strong enough it can withstand the abuse people give each other. I've seen highly different opinions in pubs that have lead to fights and people not talking for years. that's childish though. although I would defend my team no matter what. but thankfully I've never been in the position to lose a friend over football. not to say that won't happen in the future.

Yes and No.
It depends on the kind of person you are and how you handle your relationship. It also depends on the type of relationship.
I seem to have a better relationship with people who appreciate France and Zidane rather than with those who dislike Zizou and France.
As for my bf, I like him supporting my team and I hate it when he disagrees with my opinions so we have an arguement, and I usually end up threatening him with a break up and he says sorry and agrees with me =))

no, cause this is how life is. people have differnet opinions, i know many people here who support the team that the other one hates, but they'er still friends, sports are only sports. friendship is more important. it would be silly if u dislike someone, or end your friendship with somone only because of sports. here, there r couples, even married people who support the team that their spouse hates. it's normal. they're from different backgrounds.

Well for example my brother was too tired and lazy to drive 15 minutes back to my house to watch the Milan Boca game. It was on at 3 am. I told him he wasn't a real fan and it almost turned into a fist fight. We didn't talk for about a week.

I think it can but I consider that childish....
I think its pretty rediculous that football team preferences drive relationships apart,I mean really, really, really its not like your the proffesional player who is out there anyways and a relationship, thats a life time of joy..I don't think its worth it,and I think its silly.

Depends how people take them.
In my place i dont take personal if some1 hates club i love. We can still be great friends, i even like it more so we can tease around. Of course i will always defend when some1 offends my club, and every1 should do that also, but we should not let that to become personal.

yes . . . when people are a bit TOO passionate with their club and start stupid things like riots and all . . . it's good to remember that football is only a game for entertainment and that there are much bigger things in life :)
