I saw on TV that cars are banned in Vienna. Does that mean that UPS and other shipping companies have their own gondolas? What about the police and fire department? It doesn't really matter, I'm just curious...

IMPORTANT: I said Vienna, but meant Venice. Sorry about that!

Cars are not banned in Venice, simply they can't float on the channels...!!Everything in Venice is delivered via water so mail , food, newspapers, beverage and any sort of goods are arriving by boat. Since the year 2005 there are 2 engine equiped UPS boats to deliver packages (not a gondola however that would be too slow...!!). They are blue coloured with the darkbrown and yellow UPS logo on the 2 sides and on the helm. The police and fire watchers have their own boats same as it happens by elsewhere in the ports. Also ambulances are replaced by boats in Venice.

Here's a webpage with the pic of UPS boat (pic #10) on the Canal Grande. Unfortunately the photo it's too small to see something...!!!

And this is a link of pics of the different speacial boats used in Venice by police, fire dept, hospital, etc.
At the pic.#18 again the UPS boat.
