I tried to do AVG last night and then again today.......I don't think it took....nothing showed up on the computer (icons) and no e-mails were sent saying that I had completed it.

I am going to run out in about an hour and buy the norton anti-virus firewall and whatever else is on it for protection but it is around $75, very pricy......

Is there any anti-virus that I can either download off of the internet "for free"..................I don't want to pay for it off of the internet..............

If not, is there any more resonably priced anti-virus that you have had good luck with that I could buy instead of norton.

Thank you, I appreciate your answers.

I have listed a few antivirus, anti spyware applications that are available for download and are completely free: I will not get involved with the rights and wrongs of each package or its effectiveness or indeed the “This is best” or “This is crap” statements. Whatever you do, just make sure you have one of each type installed, updated and fully working:

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Amber,

AVG works well and it is free, maybe you should try to download and install this program again. Try thus URL:

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/21/us/crp/0

scroll to the bottom and you will find the file that you need; while you are there you may as well download the free anti-rootkit as well.

Good luck

ESET Nod32. It's not free but is highly rated. For the free ones AVG is probably as good as it gets.

also, see this page:

It has links to some very good anti-malware products as well as some good info and advice.

Avira AntiVir PE Classic or Avast are both very good free antivirus program.

If you want to pay, then NOD32 or Kaspersky are both excellent.
