No. Limewire, the program, the network, the sharing.. it is very legal.
What MAY be illegal are the files being transferred. If you are transferring copyrighted material without permission, you are committing a felony.
Limewire is just the vehicle for this felony. Just like you can distribute copyrighted material illegally by mailing it to people, you can transmit illegal material through peer to peer network
To sum up, if you are transferring files you have permission to share, it's perfectily legal. As legal as mailing them.

I hate this question.
Limewire itself is NOT illegal.
To use Limewire to download copyrighted material without the owners permission IS illegal.

No the program itself is not illegal but when you upload or downloading a copyright song or something then it is.
Their was a woman who has racked up millions of fines for this and lawyer fees.Just go to the link I have posted.
Just click her blog and do a news search she will be all over the net.
Also their are alot of companies hiring people to do nothing but upload fake stuff that has viruses in the file.

No, Limewire downloads from computers that are connected to the Limewire server. Thats where the music comes from, in a sense you are sharing music from your neighbors to someone in another state. Its all about sharing, thats why its for free, theres no profit for limewire. iTunes works differently, they have the nice songs on their server and they charge you for each song because they want to make a profit for storing the songs you want on their server.

You can be sued if you use it, especially if you allow people to download music from your computer. The program is not illegal, but can result in civil penalties for copyright infringement.

If you own the CD for the music you are downloading, it is not illegal, but is pretty useless. Technically no, it depends on how you use it.

the program itself is not illegal. Its a peer to peer program, but once you download a copywrited piece, then it is illegal....
so the program is not illegal, but whats used for is illegal.
