It does not change my opinion on zoos, but it does change the way I look at the San Fran Zoo. The more details that come out the more I sadly shake my head.
What I do hope is that other zoos will learn from this tragic event or that they will tighten the laws around zoos. Thus forcing road side crap holes to be shut down. So-so zoos to do the improvements they have long been placing on the back burner. And for the great zoos out there to even better... not only for the animals but for the staff and people who visit.

well, I have mixed feelings about a zoo. Part of me can't stand the fact that people go everyday and stare at them , while the other part of my know that I enjoy going and looking at animals that I wouldn't be able to see otherwise. It is really scary to think that one could escape. In most accidents at zoos its when the viewers do something they no they are not supposed to do, getting in, getting too close, or being out right stupid. But, this case was much different. I think that this tiger should be put down believe it or not. I really can't believe I think that way, but... it could happen again. I think all zoo should be SURE 100% that there is no way for the animal to escape. Especially when I think about all the many children and families that go and observe their behaviors. My family for instance.

i think some zoos' board of directors' need to go through a complete program overview and self audit themselves to find deficiencies.
i think some people need to recognize that wild animals, even in zoos, are still WILD animals. zoos are places that offer an opportunity to learn about animals and NOT places to taunt some of the worlds largest carnivores.

the same i feel that as many animals as possible should be in their natural habitats, but zoos are good in the sense that you can be educated about animals. not everyone has the money to go to africa on sufari, but almost everyone can afford to go to the zoo. i think that zoos are places of education where people can see and enjoy the wildlife from around the world. and zoos are good because if you don't know about an animal, then you won't be willing to save it, but if you do know about it then you can, as steve irwin said, "people need to know about wildlife, because people wanna save the things that they love."
