I have to write a freaking 8 page paper about Problems with Rome/Decline.
Not fun at all.

Okay so, I have to write about these 3 topics:

1.They became too large and complex to govern itself efficiently and safely.

2. Devastating barbarian invasions.

3. The rise of Christianity, which ideas weakened Rome’s traditional martial spirit.

So. If someone could expand on these 3 topics, that would be nice.
Make it as detailed as possible, because this crap has to last 8 pages.

Haha.
thanks .

Use the site below (and use large writing on small pages, ha, ha).

1. The Romans recognised the problem themselves - that's one reason why they split into west and east. Look up some sites about Byzantium for more on this.

2. The Romans were constantly fighting off invasion from their borders. Look up Alaric for info on the final sacking of Rome.

3. I don't agree with this statement at all, but that's only my opinion. Constantine was successful at using Christianity as a tool to bring the empire together.

OK if you combine 1 and 2 and say that Rome did become too large it had to outsource military operations to the very barbarians that were putting pressure on Rome. To sustain such a large military involved in battles all around the empire it is much like Iraq and halliburtan. Rome had to essentially privatize its military and offer these barbarians Roman citizenship and great financial benefits to fight for Rome. What eventually happened was the barbarians felt like Rome was a part of them as well so not being involved in leadership or government made them have a bad taste for Rome. So don't believe anyone that tells you Rome fell it simply declined over a period of time due to all three reasons. Also take into account Cincinattus and how much Rome changed from the republic to the empire. Cincinattus dropped everything to fight for Rome as a republic however in the empire if you could find people to fight you had to reward them handsomely. To the issue of Christianity a good place to start is the move of the capital to Constantinople and the Eastern and western Rome the beginning of the Byzantine empire is good to do research on. If you use these themes I am going to write you should have no problem writing an eight page paper. Pages 1 and 2 discuss changes from the republic to the Empire how the people were different. Also how much resources were needed to sustain the military. Pages 3 and 4 discuss important barbarian battles 476 A.D. and the significance they had on Rome linking them to the theme of the first two pages. Pages 5 and 6 introduce the rise of Christianity and changes of the Roman empire. Finally 7 and 8 drive it home with a presents aspect between similarities of modern America and Rome military, economy, religion, and this can close your paper very well

Be glad people are willing to contribute even when you call the material they're going to give you crap!

Now, to combine 1 and 2, the barbarian migrations/invasions from the north and east caused Rome to pull its troops out of outlying parts of the Empire, Britain in particular, to defend territory closer to home.

Although Gibbon, in The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, blamed Christianity for a large part of that fall, more recent historians have rejected his argument. Some contend that Christianity counteracted the moral dedadence that was already spreading through Roman civilization and that the fall might have happened sooner without the moral shot in the arm that Christianity provided. And keep in mind that, as late as 453, the Roman army defeated the fearsome Attila the Hun--at Chalons, in Gaul/France, after Pope Leo I persudaded him the previous year to turn back from attacking Rome itself.

Be sure, too, to include the fact that the Empire split into the Eastern and Western Empires in 286 (under Diocletian) and that the Eastern Empire survived as the Byzantine Empire for almost 1000 years after the end of the Western Empire (476--Constatinople fell in 1453).

an substantial ingredient grow to be the attractiveness of the Christian church in 314 via the Emperor Constantine. After that, the government grow to be ruled via the church and backed persecutions against people who did no longer adhere to the respected party line on non secular concerns. additionally, the state began helping indolent clergy, and lacked sufficient money to help the army, which led to the decline and fall of the Roman Empire whilst the barbarians got here to attack.

3.Rome wasn't Christian at first, but then after Jesus's death, people started believing in him.
