I used to live n the Glenview District of Oakland and there are great spots up in the Hills there that you can see ALL the bridges and the fireworks. Check out Grand View Drive in the Hiller Highland area. (use google maps). The views are fantastic from the top of Grizzly Peak. This is in the area of the Oakland Hills Fire (1991). Of course, the Bay has to have a No Fog night.

Don't know about fire works for New Year's. For the best of city lights try the Berkeley hills, like the Lawrence Hall of Science parking lot!

the marina is a nice place. bring out a blanket and just chill out there. It's really beautiful! Or go to the golden gate bridge area. There's a little park there. You ca grab a coffee and just hang out there. It's really romantic. By the water, great views. Or, the coit tower. Very nice....I haven't been for a while, but those were the places i would go.
