I want to use it on both my desktop and laptop. I have a broadband connection currently (a CAT 5 cable) coming directly into the LAN port of my desktop PC.
I want to share this with my laptop.
Which wireless router should I go for ? (it's for home use, so do not require a very big range)

It would be great if you could tell the actual physical connection (i.e. cable coming from outsidde to router and so on...) and how can I use it wirelessly on my laptop(which has the capabilities for sure)

Thank you.

It is not an ADSL connection. It uses a CAT 5 cable (no modem/router device is there at my home and the wire directly comes to my home desktop pc)

Well a cable/dsl router should work just fine for you. BUT you said "broadband connection currently (a CAT 5 cable) coming directly into the LAN port of my desktop PC."
From where? Is that a DSL or what? If it is a supplied connection (from a univeristy or apartment etc) you may have to do some extra configuration to get it to work.
If it is supplying you an IP like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x then you are already behind a router and that means a little extra work when setting one up to work correctly. Let us know and we can be more help.

Linksys, Dlink, Buffalo, etc all are good routers and can work. Just need to set them up to work properly with the INBOUND line! And a good wireless router will supply your laptop with wireless connection.

The Linksys WRT54G is one of the more popular choices for home wireless networking. Simply plug it in to the modem via the WAN port and your computer in to it via one of the switch ports, set up the wireless and you're done.

i will anticipate you're computer already possibilities up the instant sign. on your laptop, you need to purchase what's usually a instant "antennae" for it. They plug into certainly one of your open USB ports on your laptop computer and p.c.. up the instant sign. I positioned one on a kinfolk member's, and it works large. you could p.c.. one up at acceptable purchase.
