We hang the paper down the back, because I like the way that looks. I also find it 'easier' to get just the amount needed, and the weight of the roll makes it easier to tear. I've never thought of it needing any extra 'handling' though, and must at least consider that ... but I doubt I'll change the way I hang my TP, simply because that is the way I have ALWAYS hanged it, it's the way my mother and grandmother hanged it that way, too. It's certainly an 'interesting subject' to think about as the new year is coming and we are making some necessary changes in our life, though. Thanks for you question ... and if you come to my apartment, I do apologize for haning my TP 'backwards,' but I do ask you to leave it that way, because when it hangs to the front I go BALLISTIC and must change it even before I can 'go' (maybe we all need upright rolls, so there's less problem either way ... ).

I have 2 bathrooms, and in each one the paper is hung a bit differently. In one, it has to come off the back because of the height of it, and it is also hanging over a floor register which will blow ithalf unrolled if it comes off the top. In the other bathroom, it has to come off the top because it hangs lower and it would be awkward to pull it off the bottom. So it is just a matter of personal preference and convenience.
But they are probably out to get you, anyway. You know they see you coming and change it just to get you, lol!

If you have a heat vent on the floor near the TP, you would understand. The paper has a tendency to unroll when the fan is on if hung over the front. I realize that the TP manufacturers have set a practice of front rolling paper since they put prints on it so you can see it when installed this way. Cats will also use it as a toy and it's a pain to try to reroll.

Hang the paper in front
...unless you have cats. They can take a couple of swipes at the roll and be amused by it collecting in a nice big pile on the floor.

I have always hung it from the back - the same as my paper towels, If you think about it for a minute, a lot of paper is now printed, so it looks pretty from the front - I think the manufacturers started this trend! If it is hung from the back, it is easier to tear - besides I use plain white, no prints. I guess it all boils down to preference.

we hang it from the front. But unless i'm the one that puts it on there, it doesn't get changed at all, the new roll sits on the back of the toilet.

I want mine hanging in the front, my husband always hangs it the other way and rather than have an argument over something so silly I just hang it the way I want.

Hang it so it is in the front. That way it will not get stuck to the wall and is easier to get a hold of.
