You can forget the internet, TV and newspapers, so your information would be limited. There would be no distribution of good or services. There would be no food produced either, so you would only be able to eat what you are able to harvest or steal on your own. Anarchy would be the rule of the day. Violence would be the only means of providing sustenance. No one would be untouched by it. Rape, murder and thievery would be common.

Interesting question. I guess it would depend on where you live. After about 3 days people's food supply would start to run low. Most major cities would be totally out of food in about 3 weeks. So after 3 weeks you'd have roving bands of young men hunting and stealing any food they could find. If you live here in Phoenix, we have the nations largest nuclear reactor. So, after the coolant water ran dry, we wouldn't have to worry about those roving bands of men looking for food! If you were in some areas of the country where farms were plentiful, it would probably takes years for people to fall apart. The lack of fuel would be the biggest problem, but they could go back to using animals for labor.

Your question is just not feasible.
Not a single person goes to work because they choose.

People go to work because they are hungry. Because they must pay rent . Because they are consumers.

There are millions of people in Mexico and other countries that will , if Americans ever became mentally dormant.

So, to answer your question, Never.
Never can happen as long as people eat, need shelter and like to purchase a $5 coffee at Starbucks every morning.
Consumerism is rampant. Long live America, and the World!

Merry Christmas, now get to work

January 1st, 2008- There would be a solid increase in the stock of companies that ship, supply, and create alcoholic beverages. The economy would thrive through the taxes ecrued from the purchase of said alcohol. All electricity and water is shut off, as there is no one to run it.

Febuary 1st, 2008- alcohol related car accidents and alcohol poisoning would be the predominate cases in all hospitals, packing them full, and leaving little room for people with disease or other serious ailments. Thus creating a massive population decrease as the weak and sick start to die off.

March 1st, 2008- The entire welfare/healthcare system colapses as there is not enough money to cover the huge increase of unmarried pregnant women, which recent statisitcs say is in the 90th percentile for women under the age of 40

April 1st, 2008- disease spreads as trash begins to really pile up. We begin to run out of fresh produce and meat products, and are reduced to living off of spam and spaghetti o's.

May 1st, 2008- as the weather begins to heat up, sickness spreads even more, reducing the population even more.

June 1st, 2008- There are riots on the streets as alcohol, water, and food start to become scarce. Fires, looting, rape, murder... there are no consequences for anything, as there are no judges, police, jail workers, national guard... The fires destroy most of what is left of the food supply, and gas explosions release copious amounts of dangerous toxins into the atmosphere, tearing the hole in the o-zone layer to scary proportions, and increasing the over all temperature by almost 20 degrees worldwide. The ice caps begin to melt, and people are forced to retreat inland as the coast lines shrink. Disease increases still more as people are forced to live close together in sweltering conditions.

July 1st, 2008- The US is forced to start importing food from other countries, but world wide it is becoming scarce because of the massive temperature increase.

August 1st, 2008- Starvation, disease, and murder kill off even more of the population.

September 1st, 2008- presidential candidate Hilary Clinton promises that she can fix all that is wrong with the country without anyone having to work, and that she can also cure cancer and aids. Her supporters become absolutely obsessive, killing those who opose her.

October 1st, 2008- Our former ally the United Kindom proclaims war on the United States after discovering that we have been smuggling already scarce food out of their country to support our people. Five different atomic bombs are detonated across the country, killing still more millions of people, and poisoning and deforming others.

November 2008- Hilary Clinton is voted into office and takes over immediately. The entire country waits expectantly for her promised help and quick fix. When none comes, the people are enraged and there are hundreds of attempts on her life daily. Finally, after about two weeks, she is killed in a freak golfing accident along with her husband.

December 1st, 2007- there is a huge population increase as women start giving birth to the children who make up the largest baby boom in history. There isn't enough food or water for the children, and the mothers are left without any kind of medical care. Everyone dies.

Everyone.
