Your absolutely right!..If you have to "re-seed" the lawn in the spring, then you are doing something wrong here! Lawns do "Not" require a mulch in the winter. The only way that leaving the leaves is beneficial to the lawn is if they have been "mulched" or "chopped" up in small, fine pieces. This way they will not smother out the lawn as you have noticed by the bare spot from the buildup of leaves that you raked off. Imagine what it would look like if you didn't remove them until March? If you have a warm season grass, it will eventually repair its self by the stolons (above ground runners) filling in the bare areas, but if you have a cool season turf, you will have to do the seeding yourself in the spring. Don't let anyone tell you that it is "OK" to leave full size leaves on your turf through winter without mulching them first. This is so not true. The leaves will smother out the turf after they become "matted" with moisture through winter. After they are removed 3 or 4 months later, you will have nothing but a muddy quagmire on your hands, not to mention the loss of your lawn. The only place unmulched leaves should be left on a landscape is in the bed areas around the plants and shrubs. This will help suppress the weeds from germinating in the early spring. Hope this answers your question...

Hi:
The leaves won't hurt your lawn. A lot of people rake or blow their leaves for look. Actually leaves provide a great mulch during the winter months. It is really up to you. Your grass isn't growing throughout the colder months. In spring, I would go ahead and remove the leaves, aerate your lawn, seed and fertilize it and you should be fine.
I hope this has helped some and if you need any further help or other suggestions, please feel free to contact me at my website. I will link you to my site map, as this has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if there is any other information that may be helpful to you in your landscape or lawn needs. Good luck to you and have a great day!

sprinkle the area with Celated Iron. That will green it up. Water in well for three days afterwards. If you want your lawn to look green, lush and look like a golf course, throw some Epsom Salt over it in the spring.Water it well after that and you'll be real surprised. So will your neighbours, they'll wonder what your secret is.

nope, better to leave the leaves on than rake them off, it will act as a fertilizer for the grass,
