The reason I didn't use my real picture is that I am embarrassed by who I am. I am always afraid that people will judge me based on their initial impression of me instead of getting to know me. This was made clear today by the responses to the comments about obese people. Many consider us lazy or unmotivated or just gross. I have decided though that if you can't be friends with me because of how I look than I would rather know it now-than to always be afraid of what you would think when you finally met me.
As soon as I can figure how to get my picture onto my 360 I will do so.

SOME of us recognize the foolish and potentially dangerous results of posting a real picture on the www where the entire public can access it.

I have a family member who is in IT forensics...you really don't know what can be done with real pics...I, for one, will not post a pic. Has not a daggum thing to do with 'hiding behind an avatar'.

P.S. Your question is a thinly veiled slam at another member and quite frankly, unnecessary and childish. If you wish to let him know how you feel, be man enough to contact him directly without posting a question that is really not a question but a SLAM.

I would never mock anyone - I have been the victim of many "jokes" and know how badly it hurts. I went all through jr high and high school with a nickname that was so cruel, not even my family knew about it. I won't repeat it to this day, because just thinking about it hurts.

I am "hiding" behind this avatar because of it - I don't want anyone to see it - and I sure don't want it spread all over the WWW. I chose an avatar that looks closest to what I looked like 30 years ago, except with grey hair. I also don't know how to post a real picture of me even if I wanted to. Just got a digital camera for Christmas, haven't even figured out how to take a picture yet. Maybe once I do, I'll send you one private.

Because I don't have a digital camera, because I don't know how to do it. Avatar is the closest I could get with what they have to offer. Take it or leave it it's me for now. If you don't like it too bad. Besides I'm not trying to hide anything. If I've got something to say I usually say it. I don't LIe.
Boy is everybody getting a little touchy lately?

I don't feel that I am hiding behind an avatar. For privacy reasons I choose not to put up a self portrait. What I write is who I am, and my avatar looks as close to my real self as I can get with the choices offered. I do enjoy seeing the real people in their avatars though... like yours!

I use an actual photo of myself and have never had any problems concerning it. I've never received a violation notice because of my picture, unfortunately beauty is only skin deep and I've had quite a few violations for what I've said. My photo is 3 years old now and i"d like to update it but I don't remember how I got the original there in the first place. Can anyone help me out?

Avatars are fun and not everyone hides behind them. Sometimes it's a good idea not to post one's picture. It's really a privacy issue. Most of the photos are so small you can't see them anyway. Avatars do just fine.

Because they can. Perhaps some are repressed and get to vent this way. Who cares? It's cyber space. I took this more seriously when I first got a computer (one year ago). Now I don't, it's mostly fiction. Some is more like a comic book. Take it all with a grain of salt or a teaspoon of sugar.

I don't have a camera and wouldn't know how anyway. I not even sure I would want to.

Tealc, I for one am not hiding. I live in the dark ages. I don't know how to down load pictures and don't have a digital camera. I even have dial up on my computer. Pretty sad I know but hey, I do know how to keep my VCR from blinking 12:00. LOL

I have no desire to put my 'real' picture up for so many people that I don't know to see. In this day and age I can't imagine that any woman would want to do that. My sons would probably come over and give me a good ' be safe' talk. I look similar to my avatar...green eyes and all. I couldn't really care less what someone looks like on here. I love all of the avatars and get such a kick out of all of the different ones.
Why do you care sir?
