Philosophers do not exhibit need from others. They are the favorite companions, therefore, of those who do need of others. To have a philosopher as a friend for "play" is contrasted with having a subordinate for "work". A philosopher's erotic nature disallows such a scheme, having set out on an inimitable project.

Sure, but very few have become wealthy by being a philosoper except for a few who have been published. Most "known" classical philosopers were born into fairly comfortable circumstances and had the opportunity for education and the time to philosophize without having to get too wrapped up in daily survival.

Yes, roman binge eating etc. was actually a philosophic school of thought, that enlightenment came from complete indulgence. It was practiced by the wealthy only.

Probably the ones who started that way. It's like wealthy artists or composers. Their wealth is usually generated from their work after their deaths. If you don't have it when you start odds are you aren't going to see it, at least for your work in these fields, in your lifetime.

All successful people are philosophers, in action if not in words. But if you listen to what Warren Buffet has to say, or pay attention to any other successful person such as Elton John or Princess Di or the CEO of Toyota or GE, you will find that what they practice and implement in their business and in their lives is the practical side of philosophy--the "ivory tower" made earthly.
