the folks above pretty well nailed this one. but just to amplify a bit...
AA = Associate of Arts. usually takes 2 years to complete and is often in a "trade" or skill.
BA = Bachelor of Arts. usually 4 years to complete.
BS = Bachelor of Science. also 4 years, major in a science (bio, chem, etc.)
MA = Master of Arts. 1st need a BA/BS, then spend 2 years studying advanced courses in a discipline. (pol sci, history, anthro, etc.)
MS = Master of Science. same as MA, but specific focus is in science field.
Ed.D. = Doctor of Education. advanced degree that focuses on theory and practice in education. often you learn a lot about administrative approaches as well.
Ph.D. = Doctor of Philosophy. this is generally considered to be the most advanced and difficult of the degrees. in most schools it takes anywhere from 4 to 8 years to complete. you take 2-3 years of course work, then write a behemoth called the dissertation. many dissertations are eventually turned into books after graduation.
i hope all this helps you.

Hello,
Associates degrees (two years)
Bachelors degrees (four years)
i.e. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Masters degrees (one-two years plus Bachelors degree),
i.e. Master of Science (M.S.)
Doctoral Degrees (four-ten years plus Bachelors or
Bachelors and Masters degrees)
Divided into Research Doctorates (Ph.D.)
or Professional Doctorates (M.D. or J.D.).
