What is this memory phenomenon? For instance, why can I recall the first 20 Super Bowls - teams, scores, locations, etc. (1967-1896) better than I can the most recent 20?

You have two types of memory long term and short term. Long term recalls everything over your lifetime which is why you can remember things from long ago. Short term memory is for recent things that you are doing now and eventually important things to you will slip across into long term memory.

One of the problems of getting older is that you start to lose your short term memory but worse than that you start to lose your short term memory.

you maybe suffering from sometimers lol J/k Humans brains are much like a computers filing system. we have long and short term memories. You may have a mild cognitive dysfunction this is more likely the case then memory loss. Stress smoking nutrition are just a few factors that cause brain dysfunction. Reports show there are B-12 supplements that are suppose to help with memory.. In my opinion as we age we are under a lot more stress then our younger years when our brains were not so fuzzy wich enabled us to recall events and times more clearly. I dont think it is to much to worry about. Good Luck to you I keep my mind sharp doing sudoko, puzzles and brain teasers.

Maybe you have a delayed memory. You tend to forget recent details but unknowingly they get stuck in your long-term memory bank so after a while you will be surprised that you still remember them. So basically you have a very limited short-term memory but vast and unlimited long-term memory. I should know this because I think we have the same case.
