I have one of each, and what it has taught me is that both males and females are capable of an incredible array of emotions and interests. That much is obvious; we are all human.
My daughter is my first born, and when she was little I never allowed Barbie dolls into the house. I thought Barbie was an unrealistic image, and I didn't want my daughter to think she had to look like that. She just kyped her friends' Barbies, and then people gave them to her for gifts, and I gave up on that idea. She's never been what you'd call a "girlie" girl, but she does love the chick flicks.
I didn't want to encourage violence in my son, so no gun toys were allowed in the house. Not even squirt guns. He went and found sticks to shoot with. When he was little, we ran a daycare, and there was this one kid who was always bullying the other kids and taking their toys. He was much bigger than any of the kids. One day he tried that with my son, and my son tackled him to the ground and started pummeling him. He is also about the most empathetic person I've ever known, and he LOVES to help me in the kitchen.
No one taught my children those behaviors. They have been allowed to find their own preferences and form their own opinions - at least as much as is possible living with other people.
So I don't think the genders are as different as I once thought, but they are definitely different.

I agree with Bluejaws, I love both my sons and daughter, but there is definitely a difference in how the parents deal with the two genders. My daughter is really spoiled by her dad, and I sometimes spoil my sons too much.
Don't know why it's like that, but that's how it is! ~smile~

I have both, and I have to say I'd rather raise three more boys than raise another daughter. She was the one that was always pulling stuff, always getting in trouble, Qiute a handful!! If you look at her now, you'd never know she was my hellion child. Married, mother, homemaker, girl scout troop leader, just a well rounded individual and I love spending time with her now. The boys just always seemed more laid back, and never really disrupted the household the way my daughter did.
