Nothing because the human mind can be so easily persuaded and changed. We lie and decieve each other for self gain.

I took the time to read other people's comments that could help you, including the space aliens! It all depends if you are of great faith and believer of the end of things (Destruction of the System of Things). Returning to our roots would be interesting, but that would still keep us all divided.
Over many centuries there have been word, alone that were considered words of strength. I am talking about Courage and Love. You see that everywhere. Love now these days is really weak, but you see the rise of Understanding or Knowledge. Not that it has already existed, but you see people really wanting to know about other nations, religions, etc.
Therefore I believe that not only Courage and Love could unite humanity, but Understanding and Knowledge of each other could bring us all closer to live in some harmony. I hope that I do not sound like a hippi!

If everyone could get this right.
A long time ago I thought that love was something that you reserved for some special set of people that you had judged worthy of it.
After a while I got to thinking about what Jesus had said about turning the other cheek and loving our neighbor I put the two together and realized that he had made no exceptions in these statements. It became obvious to me that he intended that we exclude no one from the love that we are supposed to be giving. I started thinking about my idea of love and suddenly realized that I had not been loving anyone at all. I had simply been judging everyone and every thing.
Judging someone worthy of love is not love, it is only judgment. I actually started to cry when I realized this. I saw just how much of my life I had wasted being judgmental, thinking of myself as a Christian, when I was actually doing just the opposite of what Jesus had asked us to do.
I thought about the verse judge not lest ye be judged, and I understood it for the first time.
I realized that I have a lot of catching up to do. So many opportunities were wasted. I now try to apply the love that I have for the world in a universal way like Jesus asks us to do.
If I start to feel afraid and think that I see someone that I should not love because of something I have thought or heard I try to catch my mistake as soon as possible. I tell myself that I have forgot the truth and have fallen for the same old trick that had cost me so many opportunities to be loving in the past. The horror of this realization is often all that is necessary to bring me back to my senses and make me drop the judgmental nonsense I was thinking.
I still have a lot to learn about love, but at least I’m making progress.
Love and blessings
Your brother

I would have to delve into some serious realms of fantasy to come up with an answer to that one.
In reality I don't think anything can now or in the nearer future,if ever.
The only thing I can think of would be a sci-fi scenario where every month you'd randomly change place and position with another human being.
You could indeed be forced to walk for miles in someone else's shoes, it would be in everybody's interest to improve life for everybody on this planet and all be united.
For you could be anybody tomorrow.

A common purpose. Unfortunately there is no common purpose, everyone has a different idea of what should be. The best we could do is to obtain mutual respect.
A lot of people say that the end of religion would bring us together. But this is untrue because religion is, by definition just a set of fundamental practises and/or beliefs. One's ethics and ideals fit that description, and we simply cannot live without ideals and ethics.
Still others claim that a crisis would unify humankind. But I don't think it would. Terror will only cause us to turn on each other, try and exploit one another to save themselves.

The abolition of every nations flag, an attack from outer space, deconstruction of religion through discussion, for us all to be one colour, acceptance of all people, smiling as often as possible and doing one good thing a day for a complete stranger! Are these things possible? Sadly, I think not. We're going to keep on this path of self destruction and one day wonder where it all went wrong. Ever seen Charlton Heston in planet of the apes? Sums it up perfectly. : (

Anything that's perceived as an external
threat will unite people.
An earlier poster mentioned aliens -
something like that would be needed
to have all humans put their dislike and
distrust of each other lower on the
priority list.

GOD
There isn't anything else that can do it nor will be able to do it whether they want to or not.
I have a feeling He is coming to do it soon. Perhaps not in our lifetime but soon enough.
This way of life we've been living for so long is tiresome and weary, it is an evil form of global disease that is slowly killing us. We can't go on like this and no one has any medicinal answers to cure our race of the disease of humanity.

Nothing,
We are what we are,
Cruel,
Selfish,
Power hungry,
To name but a few reasons
Send in the aliens sounds stupid i know but it is the only reason that humans would stand side by side
To defend our own very existence

Commies were doing their best to "unite" people.
Thanks God we are all different. So forget about unity. Simple mindedness will unite humanity. Do you want us to be primitive retards?
