i have him in a 40 gallon tank for now because i just purchased him two days ago. I have two ghost tubes in there and i have a huge castle that fish can go in and out of, but the BGK never leaves the inside of the castle. I also have some other plants which can serve as hiding places. I understand that he is nocturnal but the people at the pet store said that if i get the ghost tubes that he would hide in those as well. is he being over timid because he is adjusting to his new home or this there anorhter reason for his over-shyness? Any help would be useful.

BGK are very shy, nocturnal fish, and since it was only added to the tank two days ago, there is very little reason that it would have fully recovered to the point of exploring your tank during the day. If anything, give it MORE decorations to hide in! The very LAST thing you want to do is remove its security; that is VERY stressful! If you add more decorations, it will have more places to hide and more places to be secure, which will make it more active (kind of a paradox). Simply knowing that it CAN hide if it needs to will make it braver. I would be willing to bet that if you sat in front of your tank at night with a flashlight, you would see him exploring, which means it's only a matter of time before he gets up the nerve to do the same in the day time. the black ghost is an amazing fish which i believe has different personality from fish to fish ... they are known to be shy tho... btw wen did u put ur BGK in the tank ???
try this ... take everything out of the tank except the BGK tubes
that way it will be forced to use those
rather artificial way to get the fish to adapt though but worth a try !
