I considered creating a basement apartment and renting it out, but I have young kids and would prefer not to share my house with other people.

My first thought was to rent for storage too, but how about insurance? What if your house gets flooded or burns? (God forbid)

Fisher ,
offer the area as storage.
State that it is secure and safe.
Charge 50 dollars a month for a room size.
With the space your reporting , the basement should be atleast 3 room sizes and the attic atleast one.
This could be 200 dollars a month and maybe more.
just a thought.
I wish I had some space to rent now.

You have to get a residency permit for the size house you have or they could be illegal apartments. Then you get into more trouble.

Check with your city or county.
