Plus size moms tend to gain less than the regular size mom. Before I had my gastric bypass surgery, I was pregnant with my 2nd child, and I only gained 9# at the end. You won't gain right away in the beginning just in middle of 2nd trimester and later.
Here's an informative site for Plus Size moms to be....

If you need maternity clothes, try Ebay, they have them in plus sizes.

Well with your body weight being in what is considered overweight ( not trying to be mean ) You probably have enough skin stretched that your pregnancy will go very unnoticeable. I don't believe you will gain any extra weight what you will see on the scale is 5 lbs. for the placenta weight and plus the baby's weight. But now is a good time to trim down just to take a 15 min. walk every other day it's great for the baby and you. Also now you can work out a great diet plan for your health and the babies. So be healthy and Congrads

I had a similar BMI at the begining of 2007. I went on The Best Life Diet. The one Oprah is on and lost 70lbs. I got down to the weight I was at when I got pregnant with my first daughter. It helped that I was already in the habit of eating well.
Youv'e probably heard of The What to Expect books. There is one What to Eat When you are Expecting. That one is good. It has a lot of healthy reciepies in it.
I don't know if you qualify for WIC but they provide you with a nutritionist at no cost.
A nurse in my Dr's office suggested I check out The Diabetic Diet. I didn't because I am sure it compares to what I am already doing. It is really a lot of common sense. Just do your homework. It's more important to be healthy than not gain weight. That's actually how I have to look at it. It makes it more fun instead of pressure to lose weight.
Some quick ideas that have worked for me...
I eat meals on a saucer not a dinner plate.
I only drink water and skim milk.
I eat 3 small meals and 3 snacks a day.
I don't get as much exersise these days because it is high risk but my nutritionist had me taking 3 10 minute walks a day.
I really suggest checking out Bob Green's Best Life Diet. A lot of the extra weight is emotional and you should get to the bottom of that. It will be better for you and the baby.
One of my main purposes of me getting healthier was so I could play with my daughter the way she deserves me to play with her. Plus I want to be a good influence on her food and exersise choices. I didn't have that but I can break that cycle. It is not easy being overweight in our society and I don't want to pass that on to my daughters...
Good luck
I lost weight with my first pregnancy. I am 28 weeks and have gained 12lbs. You can only tell when I turn to the side...

Honestly, you probably won't gain very much. We bigger ladies generally don't . My sister is your weight and height and is due in February. She has lost 3 pounds.
I gained about 12 pounds in the first 3 months (only strange things would cure my morning sickness), but haven't gained anything in more than 2 months. I am 264.
The advice my doctor gave me was just watch portion sizes. Now that I am 23 weeks, I find that I can't eat very much at one time, anyway, so it's no big deal.
But, I'm in the same boat as you are!

Don't stress. You want to be very relaxed, and happy in this special moment, although it's hard when your constantly thinking about your weight. I know this doesn't work for all pregnant women but with me I'm 6 weeks, and I've lost 6 lbs. already just from morning sickness, and no food sounds good to me. I'm sure things are going to change later on, but through out all the junk food. Think about your baby, and that he/she needs healthy food. Go grocery shopping..buy healthy food..fresh/frozen veggies, fresh fruit, lean meat. Cut back on the carbs just a bit. NO FASTFOOD. I did something really funny...I hung up a picture of Jessica Simpson on the back of my kitchen cupboard so when I open it I'll look at her, and won't want to grab anything unhealthy. But everyone is different, so what helps us, may not help you. Talk to your doctor about all your concerns. Good Luck to you, and the upcoming baby!!!!

I really dont worry about it right now because theres nothing i can do about it but i love it when i feel the tiny kicks and everything i felt it at 12 weeks it might be because of my previous pregnancy that i knew waht to look for. Start eating healthier now. Lean meat, lots of fruits and veggies, low-fat dairy and whole grain breads & pastas. Do some exercise. Nothing strenuous. Take a walk a couple of times a day. Since you're already large, you shouldn't have to gain any weight during your pregnancy. You can lose fat and only gain a little more than the weight of the baby. You'll feel a lot better and you'll be doing something good for your baby. Congratulations!

I don't blame you for worrying, but don't panic, and for heaven's sake, don't choose now to go on any crash diet or strain your heart. Look at this as a chance to come to grips with something that has gotten the best of you for too long. Keep your head on straight and take it slow.
Do you have a treadmill? If not, try to get access to one. A recent study which has been getting a lot of attention tracked overweight people who used a treadmill, every day, without doing anything else. They didn't diet or do any other exercise, and they all lost weight.
I had an overweight girlfriend who did this, along with a sensible diet and loads of sleep, and most of her colleagues didn't even realize she was pregnant until she told them, because she lost weight, right through the pregnancy, and had a perfectly healthy baby.
Just stay on top of it, day to day, monitor yourself, and use this as an opportunity. Walk or treadmill, every day. Congrats and best of luck!

My sister was overweight when she got pregnant as well. She actually LOST weight throughout the pregnancy. I would suggest taking the route she did... call your doctors office and get a referral on a nutritionist in your area. From there, you and the nutritionist can work on a diet plan that is healthy for you and the baby. Good luck and congrats!

honestly because you are overweight to start with you will prob lose weight in the first few months of your pregnancy. then after awhile start slowly gaining a few pounds here and their.
but your main concern shouldnt be about getting bigger you should be worried about the problems that come with overweight pregnancies. you are more at risk for dibeties which in turn can make you have either a very very big baby or a very very small baby. you should talk to your doctor about what you can do to cut these risks down. he will prob want to watch you closer and place you in the cat of a high risk pregnancy. perhaps ask him to send you to a nutritionist to get a diet that works for you. it will be okay your just going to have to go through a lot of work to keep you and the baby safe. but thats in the worse case seniaro. congrats and best of luck ^_^
