I have a school project where I have to recreate the battle of Thermopylae. I have no clue what to use for the Spartan and Persian soldiers. Any ideas?

You should be able to find miniature soldiers in a toy store or a souvenir shop. The latter will prbobably be wearing blue and grey uniforms, but you can have one side represent Spartans and the other represent Persians. Which becomes which will probably depend on where you are!

If you need more authentic models, would it be enough to bring in one of each and then renact the battle with anachronisitic ones? (Look the word up and impress your teacher by using it.) The two authentic models could be bigger than the others. You could pass them around while you're setting up the battlefield.

Aida's response is excellent.
Even if you take just two of the models - and dress them properly - you'll impress your teacher.
It would also be rather easy to make a site location using common stuff from around the house - like cardboard, construction paper, papier mache, paint, etc. Make sure you have a few toy boats, too.
