I have been suffering from depression and been very isolated and I wanted to renew old contacts. Some friends I have not spoken to for 3 - 4 years, I have always 'dropped the ball' and in the end I guess they got tired of it and drifted off.

how would you feel if someone phoned from the blue.

It think if someone phoned me out of the blue from my past (an old friend) it would be nice. I would appreciate the fact that they thought about me enough to go through the trouble of finding me.

It would totally depend on the content of the conversation. If you called just to tell me how depressed you were, I wouldn't appreciate the uncomfortable position you put me in. That is why counsellors make appointments with their clients ... it is difficult to manage other people's troubles when you are not expecting them. That is not to say I wouldn't have open ears and open arms if you were in need, but the first call in after years of absence should not be used to dump.

It would depend on how it was done. I have a 'friend' who only calls me when she needs or wants something. I think it's important to call with little expectation. Tell them you're getting things back together and miss them and are wondering how they are doing. Don't be needy. Do be friendly..but not too nosy.

I am always happy about someone wanting to speak or correspond with me. I don't like it if they don't make an effort to continue it though. It does not take much effort just a decision to do so.

I'm always happy to hear from them, as long as they have never done me wrong in the past. Be careful who you want back in your life.

I'd be more at peace with it if I was sure no one was going to ask me for money. Beyond that, I'm open to rekindling friendships.
