this is a question on my biology exam paper and i cant find the anser anywhere

Plain water will cause the cells in the body to swell, in addition, the fluid needs to be sterile. Our cells live in an Isotonic solution ( basically salt water) that can be given through a vein. Normal saline ( salt water) is 0.9 %. If a cell is exposed to a hypertonic solution, it will shrink. Hypotonic solutions ( too much water) will cause cells to swell. Hypo= swell, hyper=shrink. Think of a balloon that is filled with water, the balloon will swell. I hope that this is useful.

No, you should administer an isotonic solution to body fluids, such as saline solution (NaCl 0.9%).
