Peyton Manning reached 49 TD's in 15 games and sat the last one. When Brady breaks it, should there be an asterisk pointing this out, or at least a footnote, or should Manning's record be completely overwritten?

RoflWaffle, it wasn't supposed to be anything against the Pats. You're just furthering the notion that the Patriots have the most sensitive and defensive fans in the NFL.

No there shouldn't be,

*Manning had the chance to play the last game
*It was a 16 game season when Manning set the record and it still is a 16 game season when Brady will possibly break the record. It may be different if Brady had a 17 game season to accomplish the feat but he didn't

Peyton Manning's record is for the SEASON, not amount of games. Yeah it's awesome for him that he broke the old record in 15 games, but he should have known that Brady was going to be on his heels in no time and played that 16th game. Don't blame Brady or Moss,or the Pat's for doing something that hasn't been done before. If your asterisk clause has any justification, then the Dolphins undefeated season should have one too, because the Pat's already eclipsed that old record. I used to hate the Patriots but now I hate the Colts and love the Pats. Thats what they get for beating the Bears in the Super bowl, a strong dislike by me and a bunch of second best records. (HOPEFULLY)

The record is called "Most Passing Touchdowns In A Season", not in a certain number of games. If Peyton Manning had manned up and played in game 16, maybe he'd have thrown 3 or 4 more, and his record might not be so close to being broken, right??

Completely overwritten. Part of that record comes from how the coaches plays them, and playing in more/less games is the coaches choice. Manning might have had a better TD per a game average - but it doesn't matter Brady got more. Don't worry I doubt it will be forgotten.

no only because the record is based on a 16 game season. Peyton Manning had the same amount of opportunities as Brady will, he just didn't take advantage of them.

Stop looking for excuses to hate Tom Brady, and to diminish his accomplishments... it really makes one look petty and bitter... Manning had the opportunity to score a few more TDs in the last game of the season, and his coach chose to sit him. That should not take away from anyone else's records....

Go Patriots 15-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah i think that it gets overwritten because there was no reason other then resting peyton manning that he didnt play the 16th game! He wasnt injured there was no strike etc so i think that it gets overwritten but when Moss beats Rices record definately deserves a footnote that Rice did it in 12 games due to a strike!!!

If Brady breaks it, I think it should be completely overwritten or have Mannings as a footnote. But this is coming from a NE fan.

Let the asterisk thing go. Just remember the stat when the conversation is brought up. If you put an asterisk next to him, then you will have to put one next to a lot of records for one reason or another.

Then put anolther asterisk to Manning because he broke with nicer rules than Marino.

Put another one to Marino because Y.A. Tittle broke it in 12 games.

and so on.

It's just a number in one season, which doesn't make Brady better than Montana or Unitas.
