Yes, I think so.
I'm not saying that creating a Palestinian state would solve all the problems; but it would go a long way toward recognizing the actual fact, namely, that with two nations both claiming the same living space, something's gotta give or everything's gonna go up in smoke.

Many attempts have been made.
The problem is that most Palestinian leaders have rejected resolutions granting them a state, because Palestinians don't want to recognize the nation of Israel.
In fact, the original post WWII resolution created both a "Palestine" and an "Israel", and was soundly rejected by Palestinian leaders because they wanted all of the land for themselves.
This caused a civil war in the late 1940s, which Israel won. In other words, even though the US created an Israeli state, Israel still had to essentially found the country itself through military force.
In other words, there will never be a Palestinian state until the Palestinian leaders drop their demand for the entire thing.

It's actually more up to the Egyptians and the Jordanians than the Israelis.
When the West Bank was taken, it was owned by JORDAN!! NOT the Palestinians! If you are going by international law, the West Bank would NOT be turned over to the Palestinians, but rather to the Jordanains.
When the Gaza Strip was taken, it was owned by EGYPT!! NOT the Palestinians. Again, if you are going by international law, the Gaza Strip would NOT be handed turned over to the Palestinians, but to the Egyptians.
That's the problem with many people who want Israel to go back to a 1968 border. They ignore who had the land OUTSIDE of those borders. They ignore the fact that to go back to a 68 border, that would DIRECTLY involve Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. The Palestinians still have nothing to do with it. And worse yet, it would bring into account the actions of many nations, like Jordan, and their reaction to their "Arab brothers" the Palestinians, into their borders. If you look into what happened, you come to the conclusion, "So much for Arab Brotherhood!!"

NO NO N NO NO!!!!
There is no such people as the Palestinian.
There has never been a Palestine.
Palestine is the Name the Romans gave to Israel after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. It was done to eliminate the cultural identity of the Jewish Nation.
The Land of Israel is God's Land, The Nation of Israel is God's Nation, The Jewish People are God's People, Jerusalem is God's Holy City. Neither Israel, nor Jerusalem will ever be divided, and those who try will fall under God's Judgment.
There will be no peace between Israel and mohammedanism, and we are wrong to try to force Israel to make concessions with an implacable enemy. God will judge US for doing so.
Bible Prophecy is very clear concerning Israel. There will never be a Palestinian State !

Not,that should be from the Israel free will because an imposed "love" never last, they should respect the will of they neighbor people to have his own state, the same as the Palestinian should respect the free will of the Israel to have a neighbor people that can guarantee they will be never a treat for them and for the peace in that region of the globe. The Palestinian should to gain their confidence in peaceful actions,to stop the violence of Hamas,Hezbolah whatever they are calling them selfs,to demonstrate they can stop the violence of their own people before to put a blame others for violence, the violence can only give birth to other violence and only the love and peace can stop it;every time the poor people suffers manipulated by the greed for power of the heartless ones marching over dead bodies for fulfill their purposes at any cost.At course each of them must live in their own hoses, even two brothers or two sister can't live in peace in a single house, they have to have first each of them their own house, and then to be good neighbors, but first they have to put away any resentiment.

I think a better use of US pressure would be on getting the Palestinians (and the rest of the Arab world) to accept a Palestinian state and end it at that.

Israel actually has no say in the matter. If the Palestinians say "We are a state!", then they are a state.
