Hi Def is great, but your government isn't 'forcing' you to use it.

They're instead regulating that all transmission of video signals be converted from Analog to Digital.

Digitally transmitted video is well known to provide higher quality picture than analog. The equipment may be a bit more expensive, but it's well worth it in the long run.

Also, Digital signal is easier to encode than analog. It'll be easier for cable companies to crack down on illegal cable thieves.

Gone are the days of splicing Coax!

I think HD is a great technology, but the government isn't forcing us to use it, yet atleast. they're forcius to switch to digital cable instead of analog cable. But forcing people to change is a bit rediculous. Some people just don't need it, like myself. I'm lucky if I watch TV once a week. And I'm surprised that they did that. I don't understand why the government is concerned about what kind of TV service people have? They should be more concentrated on more important issues like the war, crime, etc. Not TV. Plus there's a lot of people who don't want to switch, like senior citizens. Regular cable and antenna is what they've been accustomed to for 60 something years. Why make them switch? I have Digital cable. I have not the slightest idea on how to use the box completely without messing something up. it's absolutely rediculous

HD is going to happen, but I don't like this deadline thing either. The government should not be involved. Its like saying that everybody needs a cell phone and has o get rid of the land-line; or nobody can buy a record player but has to get an MP3 player if they want to listen to music. ( I don't have a record player either, but it is my choice)

the gov. isnt forcing u to have hd
but they do advertise alot cause they get good pay off of it
I think and know eventually the tvs that run on dialogue wont work anymore they'll shut down cause they arent made to be hooked up by cable and people will need to start using digital
so its just the change of technology and it might be changing again soon

HD tvs are actually amazing ecspecially for sports and news channels

because they are not in control of the satellites that satellite radios use and cannot be regulated by the fcc. if you make them all go HD, theyre still ran on radio waves and can be regulated, thus, still being able to control what we hear and what we can listen to. i already have a sirius and i cant wait for the merge! i have never heard hi-def but when i listen to my am radio shows, thats all you hear them pushing. crystal clear sound! more channels! sounds like my sirius promos except the more commercials and cost, lol

human beings are not being compelled to apply hi-Def. that's a sparkling technologies it extremely is immediately transforming into familiar interior the traditional living house....all and sundry is switching from analog to digital as a results of fact they like to, no longer as a results of fact they're being compelled to. the greater suitable high quality of image and sound are great reasons to alter to hi-def as adverse to staying with analog. to declare that the government is forcing human beings to alter to hi Def, is like saying whilst the telephone exchange into invented, the government compelled human beings to alter from sending mail to utilizing the telephone....that's purely no longer actual....

The last I heard of this situation is that you will be given 2 coupons worth $40 each from the US Government, to buy a converter box that will allow you to continue to use your current TV.

No one is forcing you. If you feel so strongly about it, there is a little knob or button on the TV called ON/OFF. Simply turn yours OFF. You have the free will and rights to do just that!

BTW, digital transmission of HDTV saves a lot of energy as it only takes about 20,000 watts on VHF and 500,000 to 1,000,000 watts on UHF bands.

Analog TV starts at 100,000watts on channels 2-6, 316,000 watts on channels 7-13, and up to 5,000,000 watts on UHF stations!

i think that the idea of hi-def is cool i mean it is pretty nifty watching hi-def tv's and stuff but i think it is pretty crumy that they are forcing people to go out and buy a new tv or one of those box things that converts it......a lot of people are tight on money and electronics arent nessecarily on the top of their needs list....so i dont agree with it at all
