I seriously don't know what I would do....it sounds like a confusing situation, so I'd probably just let them go, this way, they can try and work through whatever it is that causes them to keep people at arms length.

I thought I had someone expressing an interest in me before, but once I let her know I was interested back, she stopped showing an interest. ROFLMAO
Oh alright, I'll attempt to be serious. I just forget them as best I can and move on for sure.

If I'm truly interested in them, I would continue to show my interest, but in a supportive, non-threatening way. I'd be biding my time, waiting for that point where they needed someone who cared, and then I'd be there for them to turn to.
