Turkey is one of America's few true allies between Europe and The Middle East. It is a member of Nato, and the US has troops stationed there. It is also one of the few moderate Muslim countries in the world, and its government is fairly stable. However, its main issue has to do with the Kurds, who like the Palestinians, don't have a country to call their own. This has led to some violence, and Turkey has recently attacked Kurdish rebels in Northern Iraq in revenge for attacks on Turkish troops in Turkey.

Turkey is a client state of the US ie. the US runs it. The people of Turkey do not like this and many do not accept it but this is the way it is - the ruling elite work for Washington.

Turkey provides a location from which to bomb the middle east and the US and Britains complicity in the treatment of the kurds (ie. bombing them) buys any loyalty Turkey might develop for its neighbours.
