I guess the atmosphere of certain places just enables a particular conditioned response. ex. fear of the dark.

You can't see them. They are transparent. They have only bones. No flesh. Female ghosts don't do any harm to anybody. They visit you only to see the good old places where they lived once.
Male ghosts also don't do much harm to people. Keep two fingers of good whiskey in a clean glass at the entry of your drawing room. They will consume it and go back without doing any harm. The trouble is that they may come back often, generally once in 28 days.
If you have fear of the male ghosts, eat garlic as often as you can. Don't keep fried nuts in your pocket. And don't pray after sunset.
After I answered some yahoo questions on Iraq, the ghost of Sadaam Hussein has started visiting me. I keep a good bottle of Johny walker in the drawing room. In the morning I find the volume is down by two fingers. That is OK with me
May be one litre a year. He is not at peace with himself. That is the case with ghosts of people who are killed by hanging.
I had a feeling that he was on his way to US. Halted at my place just for some refreshment probably.

You're afraid of the unknown. You haven't seen one but there also isn't any proof they don't exist that's maybe what's scaring you.

If person talks about a place being haunted, even if you don't believe in them it can cause that place to have a scary atmosphere

Because it's human nature to be afraid of what we can't see, and things that would make us jump. You probably do kind of believe in ghosts if you are not totally a non believer.

Maybe what you fear isn't what you can't see, because you have probably heard that just because you can't see it doesn't mean its not there, things like that play themselves back in your subconscious.

Also you may not be totally convinced that there are no such things as ghosts. Whenever you feel this way ask God for strength or understanding and He will grant it..............

most of us are raised being told about nasty things about ghosts and thus we learn to fear them extremely. even if you keep on telling yourself that they're not true, the fear has become so natural and it would be very impossible(almost) to unlearn it thanks to our society.
