seriously.

i dont want to take Chantix, i already take enough medication. i'm a recovering drug addict - i've been clean almost 2 years of some very heavy, deadly drugs and alcohol. i got off all that cold turkey but for some reason cigarettes seem a lot harder to quit... i've tried the patch and can't even tell if its working, and i've chewed the gum but it tastes like burnt cardboard and cigarette @ss.

any suggestions?

I'm gonna hit you with this one:
I bet little Angie will be happy when her Mommy no longer smells like dirty socks.
That's one thing smokers don't know until they quit which is why ex smokers wave their hands in front of their faces when they walk by you. It isn't holier than thou--it's the stench.
I love You. Tink
Email me anytime. I am full of useless advice. But smoking is an every 20 minute hit. So every 20 minutes you crave for 5 minutes, then it goes away. I did a lot of deep breathing.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

What worked for me many years ago was something called 'LifeSign'. It weened me off the nicotine and the habits of when I would smoke. It sounds like you really want to....that is always something I tell people also, you have to REALLY want to. I was smoke free for 7 years.
Google Lifesign, I did awhile ago and they are still around.

Some more advice, once you do quit...don't ever light up again!!! I made that stupid azz mistake and am smoking again, but now...I just don't want to quit.

I'm very impressed with the hardships in life you have over come. My suggestion would be like Just Tink says, to cut down slowly. You should get to the point where you will no longer need the nicotine. I am a smoker myself and have tried the chantix and every thing else out there. I will quit one of these days myself. Just keep telling yourself that you are a non-smoker now...good luck!

1)ask everyone you know to help
2)pray
3)have something with you at all times to pop in your mouth...i used lollypop sticks and straws
4)pick a stop date and start cutting back..just postpone your smoking for 5 minutes and extend the time as the date gets closer
5)save the money you would have spent on cigarettes for a special treat and keep a reminder of this treat close to you
6)allow yourself to gain a few pounds the first month

good luck!!

When I quit the 1st time I got hypnotized but you really have to be open to it or its a waste of money and that lasted 3 yrs but I'm smoking again. I've been thinking I want to quit again. I feel like crap.

I had about 12 reasons to quit, and was only going to quit for 9 months, and then re-evaluate.

I used zyban for 3 days, which reduced the desire, and then chewed the gum. your not really supposed to taste it, when you park it in your cheek it "tingles", which tells you nicotine, a poison, is entering your bloodstream.
I gained 30 pounds in the process because food tasted soo good.
btw, there is no such animal as "cold turkey". that's a song by john Lennon. any idea that people quit that way is just testosterone and braggadocio.:)

I had success once but I did my own step down program by cutting down how many I would allow myself each day until I was down to 3 and then stopped, also lemon drops, it's true about lemon!! The hardest times for me was in the morning with my first cup of coffee and after meals!! I am going back on the patch this time!!

I was going to suggest Chantix or the nicotine "puffer" (prescription) but I know you said not medications. I know a few ppl who've done great with Chantix and one who had success with orricular (sp?) therapy. I mainly just wanted to wish you luck. I'm not a smoker, but my dad died of complications of treatment for throat cancer almost 2 years ago from smoking. Please quit now and GOOD LUCK!! I know it's terribly hard but if you've quit the other drugs I'm SURE you can do this.
