You are saying, if a court issued an order to arrest the president and the police came to enforce that order, would the secret service protect him? Wow, what a scenario! Suppose the secret service did try to protect him, the police could come on way better armed and blow them away by sheer numbers. More likely a court would issue an order commanding the secret service to cease & desist, and maybe arrest them for harboring a fugitive or obstructing justice. You have a plot for a novel here.

Chances are that some pissant cop is never going to mess with the President of the United States. That would be a straight up career killer. As for the Secret Service protecting the Prez from the FBI, that's a different matter since both are federal agencies. The secret service answer to the Treasury Department and they probably do have guidelines of cooperation with other federal agencies. It all depends on the individuals involved and their loyalty to the President. Protection from physical harm, yes. Protection from legal investigations and charges, no.

The Secret Service is required by law to protect the President and whoever's next in line.

No one has arrested a sitting President during our nation's existence.

Logically, I think federal supremacy would prevail if it was a state officer trying to arrest him. A federal law enforcement officer would derive his power from the executive branch (i.e., from the very guy he's trying to arrest) and therefore couldn't do it without consent.

The secret service protects the President from all threats regardless of the source, so the answer to your question is yes.

I think they probably would. I'm sure they view it as their duty to protect him from anything.

But if you pictured a President with an arrest warrant, then the House could impeach, the Senate could convict and remove. Then he would no longer be President and the Secret Service would no longer need to protect him. To carry it a bit further; let's picture him hunkering down in the White House and ordering the military to drive of the "invaders". But it wouldn't work because, again, he's no longer President and they would be under no obligation to follow his orders.

Yes. That's their job. Some people respect the President and think that the President should be protected at all costs.

Their job is to lay down their life if need be for the protection of the president... that does not mean that they will block a proper warrant from being served in the proper way!

Besides, the office has a form of diplomatic immunity to it, so in effect the holder of the office (Not "He", nee ner nee ner nee ner) answers to the federal marshals and the Justice department, not the police.
