This carpet could be ruined now that your youngster has smeared and rubbed in the marker, but you can use normally to get ink out of carpet and fabrics Rubbing Alcohol, just dab the rubbing alcohol on to the ink stain until lightened or removed do not rub as this will only leach the ink in further, also only use a white cloth to remove this ink as colored cloths can bleed through into your carpet, when ink has lightened or been removed use a small amount of White Vinegar on a white cloth and dab this until completely removed and allow to air dry do not dry with a hairdryer as this will stiffen the fibers in the carpet, blot till almost dry Good Luck !

Hair spray. Otherwise you might have to call in the carpet experts. They might charge about $35.00 for the job, if they are reasonable. You might just give them a call and see before you try to get it out.

Hairspray works on regular fabric, so it should work on carpet. Do a small area first before you try to do the whole area. If it doesn't work, call the professionals.
