I placed a hot pot on the table, not realizing it had slide off the towel and now I have a big white spot in the tables finish! How do I remove this spot? It is an oak table top with a dark Varnished top, the white spot is about 10" diameter. Any help would be greatful! thanks!

While the mayo trick works for water rings, it will not work for what you have. The hot pot sucked the moisture from the wood, into the varnish. You will need to sand and refinish the area.

As crazy as this sounds, it usually works. Rub in a thick layer of mayonnaise into the blemish. leave it for a day or two and wipe it off. I know this works for white rings left by drinking glasses. However, you said the pot was hot. If it actually burnt or melted the varnish you will have to strip and reapply varnish over the entire surface to make it look uniform.

Rubbing that mark with a brazil nut will work well too.- leave the oily paste on overnight.
