ok...I need some sound advice...I might be interested in selling my business (childcare centre). My company is doing quite well but I'm ready for a new challenge. As most independent business owners know....even thhough the day to day business runs independently (I have a great person in charge) there's still a load of work and responsibilities associated with it. I feel like everytime I try to take on something new (eg taking a class, volunteering at my kids school etc) I get sucked back it to the business (issues that arise, inspectors etc)
Do I just stick it out and make a decent salary (with loads of frings benefits) or do I sell? I've been at it for 12 years now and I'm not feeling fulfilled in business or in life.
What do you think?

Why not retain a part ownership in it, then you'll have the best of both worlds.

And why not sit down and seriously try to figure out what it is that you think you are "missing" in life? For many people, acquiring a "valueless" (from a business perspective) skill such as playing a musical instrument or learning to paint, or volunteering a few hours a week, gives a far quicker feeling of fulfilment than being a huge success in business...

To have had ANY success in business proves you are not naturally "risk-averse", so it's a New Year, go ahead and take some risk!

(End of lecture!)

Happy New Year! Go for it!

The only person who can really answer that question is you. Are you really going to make a dramatic life change based on what some people on Yahoo tell you to do?

If it were me, I'd consider hiring extra help to cover the responsibilities that you're struggling with so you can make time for some other things in your life. I'd also consider delegating more duties to your existing employees.

You are the only one who can answer that. But if you are looking for a challenge, why not open another center? Build and develop a chain of kiddie centers, then sell.
